What I do for half square triangles is cut them a little bigger and then trim before I sew them.

Let me know if you have any questions about how to do it. I will be happy to walk you through it. I got the tip from a friend who said that life is to short and I have too much fabric to worry about trimming an 1/8th of an inch off a HST.
