Hexagon Linen Pin Cushion Tutorial

As promised, here is my Hexagon Linen Pin Cushion Tutorial. I made this for my {Urban} Home Goods swap partner.

1. Cut TWO 4-1/4" squares out of linen.

2. Make THREE 1" hexagons out of three different coordinating fabrics.

3. Applique hexagons to one of the linen squares.

4. Select embroidery floss to coordinate with hexagon fabric.

5. Pencil line 1/8" around the hexagon parameter.

6. Using three strands of embroidery floss, back stitch along pencil line.

7. Pin right sides of the linen pieces together (so hexagons are in the middle) and stitch a 1/4" seam around all four sides leaving a 1-1/2" opening for turning.

8. Snip corners close to the seam to make clean, sharp points.

9. Turn right sides out and poke corners with a pencil or knitting needle.

10. Stuff until firm with fill of choice.

11. Stitch opening closed.

12. Insert pins and enjoy!

  1. This is adorable! I love the little hexies! I so need to make myself a pincushion - I know one day I'm going to sneeze and inhale a mouthful of pins.

  2. Hi Diane - Too funny. Those pins can be hazardous. :-)
